Century Brand® Natural Cement

Century Brand® Natural Cement is made from quarrying the original and historic cement quarries in upstate NY, burning the stone in our plant in Brookfield, MA at low temperatures, and then grinding the clinker to yield natural cement. Just pure, genuine, & authentic natural cement.

Out natural cement is pale brown in color and can be tinted with earth pigments.

Throughout the 19th century, natural cement was the preferred choice when building many of our lasting architectural treasures, such as the Brooklyn Bridge, the US Capitol, the Statue of Liberty, and numerous fortifications. Ours is made from the exact same materials, extracted from our historic Hickory Bush Quarry in Rosendale, NY.

At the heyday of natural cement production in the 1840s, 13 companies produced 600,000 barrels of cement annually. During most of the 150-year span of the natural-cement industry, Rosendale produced nearly 50 percent of all the natural cement manufactured in North America. Today, Freedom Cement is the only company producing cement using the same materials that built America.

Natural cement from the Rosendale area was produced from dolostone extracted from the Rosendale and Whiteport members of the Late Silurian Rondout Formation, where natural levels of magnesium and clay in were found to be ideally suited for cement production and required none of the chemical additives characteristic of modern Portland cement production.

Freedom Cement has exclusive access to the Hickory Bush Quarry and Century Brand® Natural Cement is the only product manufactured with materials from this historic site.
