The Beacon is a new mixed-use development emerging from the rehabilitation of the original complex of the Jersey City Medical Center. This iconic Art Deco building complex underwent a major restoration that entailed the replacement of badly damaged terra cotta with Microcotta. The restoration, was performed under the Secretary of Interior’s Guidelines for Historic Rehabilitation. This includes rebuilding and restoring the buildings’ entire facade with approved methods and materials. The Microcotta replacements preserved the architectural qualities and historical Art Deco details. Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated the building in 1936. This complex is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
